A Family Tradition

Hand-Blown Easter Eggs

These Easter eggs have been around for a long time, a tradition in our family since I was a little girl. Mama started it. We pierced each egg with a needle, blew the insides out, cleaned and preserved the shells, dyed them different colors, then painted and decorated them. There are intricately detailed eggs with beautiful, tiny details, and some that have been dyed, but not lucky enough to be adorned. Some were clearly painted by the artists in the family, and some were decorated by children who have now grown into beautiful humans that will (one day, hopefully) have their own babies to carry on the tradition.

Handle With Care

These eggs are family treasures we’ve moved with us wherever we have gone (no easy task, successfully moving fragile 20 to 30 year old egg shells). I take them out every year at Easter and think of how life has changed in the past year. When Easter is over, I gingerly return them to their pink and yellow foam cardboard cartons and contemplate what will be different in the year to come. Every year, I selfishly say a little prayer for my own loved ones; their safety and their success... this year I will pray for all of our loved ones, in fact; our whole world... may we see an end to this sickness and grief... and may this somehow bring us together, instead of tearing us apart. Amen. 💕 #eastereggs #tradition
