Christmas in the Carolinas

Holiday Blues

I’ve been a little sad for the first time at Christmas, ever. Christmas is just different now, without our kids in the house. Christmas is magical for children! It’s as fun watching them as it was being a kid at Christmas! I remember clearly how we would wait all year for the Sears Wishbook to arrive in the mail (a huge catalog of everything you could order for Christmas, in book form, before the internet). We got the Wishbook, flipped to the back, where there were about ten whole pages of nothing but toys! It was heaven! We would take fat markers and circle everything we wanted Santa to bring (I can still smell the fresh ink on the pages and the alcohol in the markers). Most everything I circled was Barbie stuff. I LOVED Barbie! But the one thing I circled every year was the Barbie Dreamhouse! I still smile when I think about it...
