Adjust your attitude!

July 2, 2020

It’s Not So Bad.

Some days I have a little meltdown about how inconvenient and uneventful this whole Pandemic thing is for me... not seeing family, not doing fun things with friends; it’s just boring! But when you think about it, this isn’t that bad. Staying at home, with air conditioning, Netflix, comfy beds and way more food than we need, it really is a first world problem. And in perfect Southern speak, “Put on Some Lipstick” and “Fix Your Face,” are exactly the kind of things our mothers and grandmothers would say to us when we were in need of an attitude adjustment.

If you aren’t familiar with these phrases, let me explain. First, both entail doing something physically that will help you change the way you are responding to an unfortunate or unappealing situation. “Put on some lipstick” literally means put on some lipstick, because southern women of a certain generation (my grandmama’s for sure), believed that just adding some color to your lips could make you feel better and look better instantly! “Fix your face” could also literally mean fix your face (get the smeared mascara from under your eyes, wipe your runny nose and put on some lipstick), or turn that frown upside down, stop scowling, put that poked out bottom lip back in.

Just Get On With It!

Even though there were and are certain things not discussed here in the South, maybe we are a literal bunch. And really, they were right, don’t you agree? Stop pouting, put your big girl pants on and deal with it! So I’m going to put on some lipstick and do just that; even though I have nowhere to go. Just makes you feel better...😊
