Beach Days in the Carolinas

My Pop died of cancer when he was 49, and my Grandmama Elga was only 45. She told me over and over how she would take me to the beach in the days after he died, and we would walk for hours along the shore and pick up shells and stare out at the waves.

Generations Beyond

I did the same thing with my children after she died many years later. When my divorce hit, I spent hours in the marshes and coastal waterways on the shore and on boats of friends and loved ones who wanted to help me recover...The water and the comfort of what felt like home soothed and repaired me.

I will always go back to the water when my soul needs to be restored. That’s where I find peace.
