Cinderella Birthday Party
Birthdays are different now…
March 12,2021
Birthdays were a big deal! As any of you my age know, birthdays ain’t what they used to be. When I was growing up, you got presents and a birthday cake and maybe once or twice in your childhood, a real party with friends over. The best (as far as I could tell), was at school on your birthday you got to be the line leader or the teacher’s helper and everybody told you happy birthday and asked you what your plans were... it was YOUR day! For me, that didn’t happen. My birthday is on January the 1st. We would get back to school when the break was over, and there was no mention of my birthday and someone else got to be the line leader and the teacher’s helper (kind of a big deal when you were little).
So imagine my surprise, one dreary January day when I was sitting in the lunchroom with my kindergarten class, the smell of cold fish sticks and spilt milk ever present and nauseating, and the door opens and the secretary walks in with a big box and sets it down on the table in front of me. In it were all the supplies for a full scale Cinderella themed birthday party! Paper tablecloths, streamers, plates and napkins, birthday hats and noisemakers... and chocolate cupcakes with a Cinderella topper on each one!
Moms are the Best!
It was, literally the best day of my life. Of course now, many more great days have turned into “best days,” but this one was, and still is, one of my very favorite memories.
Maybe a Mom Just Knows.
I have no idea what might’ve sparked this incredible burst of overindulgence from my mom... maybe I had been complaining about the whole birthday thing, or maybe it was something bigger. Maybe a mom just knows, about making memories.❤️
